Fly Report: July 9th

Although the fishing has been good the water levels are becoming very concerning. Keep an eye out for closures and other warnings when planning your fishing trip. The Yampa has been fishing great, the dry fly fishing has been especially good.

Hot Flies: PMDs, Yellow Sallys, Caddis (in the evening)

The nymph fishing has been good as well with your standard nymphs: Hares Ear, Prince Nymph, Pheasant Tail, and Copper John. A lot of people have been doing very well using a hopper dropper with a standard nymph as the dropper. The fish will still eat the hopper but with take the dropper most of the time.

Elk river is fishing really well with attractor flies: Humpys, Stimulators, and Caddis (in the evening). The high mountain lakes are fishing great with not a lot of pressure. The fish up high will eat just about anything, however we recommend trying Leeches, Small Wooly Buggers, and Standard Nymphs. Steamboat Lake and Hahns Peak Lake are great spots to take the family out for a day trip. The bait fishing has been good up there, and fly fishermen have been doing well with streamer patterns.

Tight lines and happy fishing!
